What is the Book of Kells?

Before my brother Bob contributed the post The Book of Kells, I had never heard of the book. I've done some research on it and written an article for Yahoo! Voices about this rare copy of the Gospels. This manuscript has had quite and interesting history.

What is the Book of Kells?

The Book of Kells is a beautiful, lavishly illustrated Latin copy of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John dating to around 800 AD, on display at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, but you can view a digital copy of the entire book.


Some time around 800 AD, Celtic monks produced a beautiful manuscript in Latin of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John on prepared calfskin known as vellum. Read more ...
